UCSD San Diego Supercomputer Energy Efficiency Lighting Upgrade
Project Owner: University of California San Diego
Location: La Jolla, CA
Customer: University of California San Diego
Year Completed: 2019
Dersch Design & Engineering was engaged as the prime consultant for this project to provide energy efficient lighting design and specifications to support the upgrade of UCSD’s supercomputer server room.
The San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) is an organized research unit of the University of California San Diego located on the East end of campus. Our designs incorporated the University’s desire to provide new light fixtures and lighting controls within the space resulting in a complete and cohesive lighting system that meets end user requirements.
Our firm engaged a cost estimator and evaluated fire life safety compliance and helped to make recommendations on emergency egress lighting.
Additionally, Dersch Design assisted the University in the evaluation of bids during the bid process.
Construction was completed with minimal RFIs, and we see this as a testament to the accuracy and constructability of our construction plans.
Ultimately, our firm's design reduced electrical lighting loads by nearly 63% resulting in energy and cost savings for the University.
